Acts of Return I is an ongoing body of work rooted in photographs taken in Bucksville, South Carolina, and Houston, Texas. In places where generations of my family have lived, this body of work explores the layered histories embedded in the landscapes of the American South. Having spent my life returning to these communities during summers and holidays, I approach them as sites of both personal belonging and historical reckoning. Raised in a military family and shaped by constant movement, I understand identity as fluid rather than fixed. My experience as a biracial woman informs an ongoing investigation into how memory is inherited, fragmented, and transformed across generations. Through quiet, atmospheric imagery, I aim to explore the contradictions of the rural South, the enduring presence of historical violence and grief alongside profound resilience, faith, and resistance.
