Creating collages from a personal archive of family photographs and also double exposure portraits is a duality. Combining images from both sides of my family, I am expressing the feeling of constantly teetering on the edge of both worlds…never quite fitting and meshing correctly, and a part of a fragmented world. In my video piece, also titled Duality, I am considering the importance of time as well as the relation of text to image. Considering how a lack of language can begin to create isolation. These photographs are fleeting moments. How do we hold on to memories, on to these ideas of who we are and who we are supposed to be, but more importantly, how do we begin to let them go and just be?
